The bar chart and table display the average life expectancy in 2008 and the improvement in life expectancy between 1983 and 2008. Overall, it seems that life expectancy increased in every country shown in the chart. Moreover, some countries experienced only a slight rise, while others recorded much more significant improvements over the 25-year period.
Let’s start with the bar chart from 2008. Japan and Indonesia have the biggest difference in life expectancy, which is roughly 12 years. Japan had the highest figure at 82.7 years, whereas Indonesia recorded the lowest at 70.9 years. The U.S. and Korea are both in the category of under 80 but over 75 years. However, Korea’s life expectancy is slightly higher than that of the U.S. Generally, all four countries can be grouped into the 70+ life expectancy category.
Moving to the table, Korea and Indonesia performed better in terms of improvement than the U.S. and Japan. This means that life expectancy increased more rapidly in these two countries during the period. Indonesia experienced by far the largest increase, at 14.1 years, followed by Korea with 9.3 years. In contrast, Japan and the U.S. saw relatively modest rises of 5.1 and 3.2 years respectively.
