The bar chart illustrates the percentage of various waste management methods in 15 European countries.
In general, Greece has the highest percentage of landfill waste management among all the countries presented. Austria leads in managing waste through recycling/composting, while Denmark has the highest level of waste incineration. Among the four countries that employ more than three methods of waste processing, Germany has 10% of its waste handled by other means, the highest among the four.
To be more detailed, the first seven countries on the chart, representing approximately 46% of the countries, process more than half of their waste through landfill. Greece and Ireland rank first and second with 90% and roughly 87%, respectively. Finland, with nearly 60% of its waste processed by landfill, has the lowest percentage among these seven countries. In terms of recycling/composting, Austria prioritizes this method the most, handling three-fifths of its total waste this way.
On the other hand, 13 out of 15 countries manage waste through incineration. Denmark and Luxembourg use this method the most, applying it to more than two-thirds of their total waste. Conversely, Spain utilizes incineration for only roughly 5% of its waste.
A total of four countries use methods other than the three listed waste management methods. Among them, Germany stands out with a little more than 10% of its waste processed by other means, while Austria has around 2%, the least among all.
