Overall, households with between 2 and 4 people were dominant in both years, whereas households of 5 or 6 people were relatively infrequent in both years. In contrast, households with 1 person showed moderate proportion among others.
In 1981, smaller-sized households in the UK made up larger proportion of the total. In contrast households with 5 or 6 people accounted almost equal figures, namely 6% and 8% households separately. Interestingly, households with one-person households showed 17%, while 4 people households form 16%. However, 2 person households reached 31% with the large proportion.
By 2001, the number of households with many people declined slightly, by contrast, number of households with few people increased noticeably. Households with 6 and 5 people decreased substantially with 2% and 6% accordingly, while 4 people households dropped considerably to just 15%. Although, homes with 3 people went up to 17%, 1 person residences increased dramatically with 26%. Surprisingly, domestic units with 2 people reached to 34%.
