Overall, the most notable trend is the significant decline in the proportion of households without a car, while ownership of one or more cars increased steadily. By the end of the period, the majority of households owned at least one car.
At the beginning of this period, in 1951 nearly 85% of household did not own a car but this figure was dropped dramatically over the years reaching just below 22% in 2007. Meanwhile, the percentage of household with one car rose sharply around 10% in 1951 to nearly 45% in 2007, then it leveled off until the end of the period.
Household with two cars and three or more cars started at just under 10% and gradually increased over the time period. Household with two cars went up 30% in 2017 are common then carless household. Although still the smallest in group, the percentage of household with three or more cars also improved slowly but steadily, from about 1% in 1951 to 9% by 2007.
