In 1968, the food occupied highest proportion of people’s income, about 35%. However, it dropped dramatically to only half of the original percentage in 2018. The same situation went to clothing and footwear. Originally, families spent 10% of their income to their outfits,but it turned to be only 5% in 2018, which was half of the initial proportion. Besides that, one of the differences that stood out was household buy less personal things over the 50 years period, decreasing about 5% from 1968. Lastly, average money that spent on fuel and power was dipping from approximately 7% to almost 4%.
In contrast, leisure activities seemed to be the dominant status in people’s income over the 50 years period, from 8% in 1968 doubled to about 22% in 2018. Meanwhile, the expenses on housing properties also increased significantly in people’s income from 10% to approximately 20% . The percentage of the transportation also rose sharply from about 8% to 14%. Surprisingly, the average money that families spent on the household goods remained the same as it did in 1968, only 8% in both recording years.
