The line graph illustrates how many European citizens of distinct age groups who went to the gym on a frequent basis over a 20-year period from 1990.
Overall, all age groups experienced a growth in their figures throughout the examined period, but to varying extents. Additionally, while the 24 – 33 group generally led the chart, except in 2006, the data for the 44 – 53 category languished at the opposite end.
In 1990, individuals aged from 24 to 33 went to the gym most frequently, registering about 16%, which was followed by the figure for the 18 – 23 group, with just over 15%. From 1990 to 1998, a fairly similar trend was witnessed in these two categories, rising before dropping to 20% and around 16%, respectively. Subsequently, while the statistic for the group of people aged from 24 to 33 showed a steady increase, ending the period with more than 25%, that of the 18 – 23 category rose and peaked at 2006, overtaking the 24 – 33 group’s first rank, before falling to about 18% in 2010.
There was a marked disparity between these two age groups and the 34 – 43 and 44 – 53 categories, with statistics for the former being treble those of the latter in 1990. Afterwards, both these categories witnessed an upward trend, increasing to 10% and approximately 6% in 2010, respectively.
