The graph demonstrates that the population of all three cities exhibited a notable increase over the 24-year period, although there were some fluctuations in growth rates. Of particular interest is the observation that Melbourne and Sydney exhibited comparable population growth patterns, with greater numerical increases than Brisbane.
The initial population of Melbourne was approximately 35,000 in 1992, after which it exhibited an initial decline. This was followed by a surge in population growth that reached its peak in 2002, with the population close to 86,000. After reaching this peak, there was a slight decline, after which the city experienced a resumption of growth, with the population reaching nearly 118,000 by 2016.
Sydney’s first census in 1992 recorded a population of approximately 30,000, which subsequently increased to over 60,000 in 2001. However, there was a notable decline in the following year, with the population dropping to approximately 20,000. Subsequently, the population increased to 105,000 in 2016.
In opposition to this, the city of Brisbane exhibited a comparatively gradual growth pattern, with an initial population of 23,000 recorded in 1992. The city reached a population peak of approximately 62,000 in 2010, with subsequent fluctuations before stabilising at around 50,000 in 2016. This overall trend reflects a gradual but consistent increase in the population size.
