The given bar chart illustrates the date about the age of women in Australia when the have a first childbirth over the three periods: 1966, 1986 and 2006.
Overall, the rate of having first childbirth of the three types of age categories: 19 and under, 20-24 and 25-29 declined gradually, while elder women’s figure increased significantly over the periods.
As the graph shows, in 1966 20-24 age women had the highest first childbirth rate at around 60%. This year over 40 years women gave birth to their first child at nearly 1% and this was the lowest point. Moreover, 19 and under had around 35%, 25-29 had just below 40%, 30-34 had around 10% and 35-39 had approximately 9%.
In 1986 these figures had changed: 19 and under decreased to 20%, 20-24 dropped either to around 40%, 25-29 climbed more than 50%, 30-34 increased slightly to less than 20%, 35-39 and over 40 went up slightly.
In the last period, there was decrease in the young women’s age group from 19 to 29 and the rest of age women group continued to rise. After all, early thirties reached the highest point almost 50% among the elder women.
