Overall, most girls chose to play Netball while the major boys took soccer as their sporting activity. Regardless of Cricket, Netball, Martial arts, soccer, and swimming having obvious differences, the other sports had similar changes.
In terms of sports that more girls joined than lad namely athletics, netball, and swimming, Netball was the most prevailing sport with slightly over 25% of females choice, while about 1% of males took part in this sport. Following was the second-most popular sport that female people were likely to play, swimming, with around 23%. In contrast, the percentage of males playing this sport only accounted for 1,5 times the female figure, which was slightly over 10%. In 2002, the figure for female joining in athletics was approximately 5%, and there was around 4% in male figure.
Concerning sports that had higher percentages played by boys, soccer was the jams of major boys in 2002, with 25%. However, the figure for girls playing soccer comprised only one of fifth figures for the counterpart. The percentage of tennis and basketball had a neglectable difference in both male and female players, approximately 10%. Martial arts played by boys comprised more than 2 times the figure for girls, which was 10% for boys. Cricket had the lowest percentage of male players in New Zealand, while there was nearly 15% males playing this sport.
