The given bar chart illustrates the proportions of the UK males and females taking part in several popular sports in 2008.
It is clear that males had higher participant rates than females in almost all sports, except swimming and netball, which attracted more female players. In addition, the biggest difference was seen in the percentage of males and females playing netball.
In 2008, the percentage of UK males joining other sports accounted for 20%, which was 10% higher than that of females. Meanwhile, soccer was the most popular sport among UK males, accounting for approximately 24%, while their counterparts made up only 5%. Similarly, around 8% of males played table tennis, compared to just 4% of females. In cricket, 10% of males were recorded, which was significantly higher than that of females, at only around 1%.
Looking at other types of sports, netball was the most preferred sport among females, with 25% of players, which was dramatically higher than the figure for males, at only 1%. Similarly, there were around 22% of female players taking part in swimming, while the figure for males stood at 13%. Additionally, the percentage of females engaging in jogging was 4%, compared to 3% of males. At the same time, tennis and basketball shared the same pattern among both genders, each attracted around 6% of participants.
