The graph illustrates the proportion of books sold by one bookseller divided by 5 different genres and years (1972, 1992, 2012).
Overall, it’s evident that the percentage of book sales of each genre remained stable between 1972 and 1992. Whereas, in 2012 adult fiction and children’s fiction books sales increased becoming the most sold books, while the percentage of the remained three generes dropped.
Looking at the data in more detail, adult fiction and children’s fictions adult fiction sales slightly increased from 20% to 25% in 1992 and significantly rose to 45% in 2012. Children’s fiction percentage stayed constant over the period indicated, gradually growing from 20% to 25%.
On the other hand, biography and other books figures showed a fall between the three years, dropping by almost 5% each year. In 2012, biography books were the least sold books with 8% of sales. Meanwhile, the amount of travel books sales fluctuated from 15% in 1972 to peak at 18% in 1992 and then decreased to 10% in 2012.
