The bar chart illustrates the influence rate of five factors affecting student’s decision to take part in a particular university in the UK during 1995 to 2005.
Overall,there was an upward trend in the figures for suitable degree courses,close to parental home,and quality of teaching.While the proportion of other categories, such as quality of resources,and good sport and social activities declined over the period. In addition, the figure for suitable degree courses had consistently ranked at the highest point throughout the period.
Regarding the upward trend, the share of students who chose their university based on the suitable degree courses was initially at 35% in 1995.The figure then increased significantly to around 38% in 2005, remaining the highest factor in the chart. Similarly, about 10% of students chose university because of being close to their parental home in 1995, then rose dramatically at roughly 22% in 2005, ranked the second highest factor. The figure for ‘quality of teaching witnessed an increase from 1995 to 2005, with a considerable growth in its percentage from 15% to 19% at the of the period.
In contrast, the ‘quality of resources’ category witnessed a decline from 1995 to 2005, with a considerable fall up in its percentage from about 20% to 15% at the of the period. Beside this, initially at the same figure, having good sport and social activities then decreased sharply to approximately 20% to 6% at the end of the period , becoming the lowest point in the chart.
