Overall, handheld titles were the most successful and increased steadily every year. At the same time, console products lost their market share and went down. On the other hand, mobile and online sectors began with no revenue at all but became much more dominant by the end of the period.
Looking at the numbers, handheld games opened at about 11 billion dollars in 2000 and reached almost 18 billion in 2006. In contrast, console sales dropped from 6 billion dollars to less than 3 billion. Mobile and online categories appeared only after 2001. After that, they expanded very fast.
