The bar chart illustrates the number of waste, in million tonnes, disposed by using three different methods: landfill, burning and dumping in the sea between 2005 and 2008 in a European country
Overall, landfill and dumping in the sea experienced a downward trend throughout the period, while it can be seen that burning waste showed a different trend compared to other mothods.
Starting with the declining figures, the landfill method stood at 70 million tonnes of waste in 2005 and then dropped slightly to 60 million tonnes in 2006. This number continued to decrease by about 10 million tonnes in 2007 before reaching 40 million tonnes at the end of period. Meanwhile, the waste dumped in the sea in 2005 recorded at 55 million tonnes and then fell to 50 million tonnes between 2006 and 2007. This figure finally reached 40 million tonnes in 2008 after dropping by around 10 millon.
Regarding burning, this method began with 65 million tonnes of waste in 2005 before declining steadily to 60 million tonnes in 2006. Following that, it can be seen a significant decrease to 40 million tonnes between 2006 and 2007 before recovering to 65 million tonnes and reached its highest point in 2008.
