The bar chart compares the proportion of transportation fuel used in six different countries and the EU Average in 2009 and 2010.
Overall, the percentage of fuel consumed in 2009 relatively less common in most nations, except for Slovakia and Spain. In 2010, the figures in Italy, France, Greece increased significantly, while the other countries recorded a downward trend and a stability was seen in Austria. At the end of the scales, the total share of fuel used in transport in EU Average decreased.
In 2009, although Slovakia highlighted the highest proportion of fuel consumption in transport, at nearly 9%, it maintained the initial top-ranking position in 2010 after dropping to around 6.4%. Spain also followed a similar pattern, though more modestly, declining from approximately 3.9% in 2009 to 3% in the final year.
Italy, France, and Greece showed an opposite pattern. Italy stood at about 4.4% fuel used in transport before rising steadily and reached 5.1% by 2010. The figure for France increased more modestly from roughly 3.7% in 2009 to above 4% in 2010. Meanwhile, Greece recorded the most considerable upward trend, despite being the lowest in 2009 and 2010, at around 1.1% and 2%, respectively. Meanwhile, Austria remained unchanged at approximately 5.1%, showing its second-highest share of fuel use over the two-year period. These differences reflected a significant decline in the EU Average, from 6% in 2009 to 5% in 2010.
