The chart illustrates the percentage of fuel used in the transport sector in 6 EU countries, compared to the EU average in 2009 and 2010.
Overall, an upward trend was seen in the percentage of fuel used in the transport sector in Italy, France and Greece over the period, while the figure for Austria stayed unchanged and that for the remaining countries experienced a downward trend. It is also clear that the figure for Slovakia had the largest proportion in both years, while the opposite was true for Greece.

Despite a slight decline to over 6% by 2010, Slovakia remained the leading country of using fuel in transport sector by a wide margin. A downward trend was seen in the figure for Spain, which decreased from 4% to 3% throughout the period. A similar pattern was seen in the statistic of EU Average, which declined by 1% and accounted for one-twentieth by 2010. In contrast, the data of Austria remained unchanged at 5% during the same period.
Regarding the remaining countries, during the same period, the proportion of fuel used in transportation started at 1%, before doubling one year later. A slight growth was seen in the figure for Italy and France, with their respective figures in 2010 being at 5% and 4%.
