The line graph compares Japan’ population in terms of age groups from 1960 to 2040, with figures presented in percentages.
Overall, it is clear that while the proportion of both people aged 0-14 and 25-64 generally showed a downward trend throughout the timeline, the figure for individuals 65+ increased.
In detail, there were roughly 65% of people aged 25-64 in 1960, followed by a slight increase to 70% in 1990 before a possible decline to 55% in 2030. Then, the number of individuals aged 25-64 is projected to grow to nearly 60% by 2040, becoming the dominant age group. Similarly, the figure for individuls between 0-14 stood at 30% before a slight fluctuation untill 1980. Subsequently, the statistic declined over time and is expected to decrease further to 10% by the end of the period.
By comparison, the percentage of people aged 65+ began at almost 5% at the beginning, and then the figure grew slightly over the period to reach 30% and is forecast to rise even further to around 35% by 2040.
