The bar graph illustrates how males and females who worked in five different statuses spent their free time in an average week between 1998 and 1999. The units measured in hours. Overall, unemployment and retirement were far more popular for both genders than other activities, whereas males did not participate in housewives and employment in part-time.
Regarding both genders who were unemployed and retired, women were less active in unemployment over the period than men, at almost 75 hours compared to about 90 hours, respectively. Likewise, in terms of retirement, this rate was the same as unemployment.
As for the other job statuses, females who were employed part-time and were housewives solely enjoyed their leisure time activities as opposed to men who did not. While women who were employed part-time relaxed approximately 40 units in a typical week, females who were housewives did so around 55 units. Notably, both genders were active in full-time employment. Men enjoyed more of their leisure time in the week than their opposite genders, at about 45 units as opposed to around 38 hours, respectively.
