The pie chart represents which factors affected the most in global land degradation, while the table describes how these causes affected the three regions of the globe in the 1990s.
Overall, the over-grazing accounted for the largest proportion, whereas the “other” constituted the smallest piece. The table further indicates that the percentage of land degraded was higher in Europe rather than in North America and Oceania.
According to the chart, over-grazing had the largest proportion at 35%, followed by deforestation and over-cultivation, which accounted for about one third of the chart(30% and 28% respectively). In contrast, was the least dominant category with just below one tenth(7%).
In table, Europe was degraded the most(23%), where 9.8% was caused because of deforestation followed by over-cultivation at 7.7%. By contrast, North America’s overall degraded land was the lowest(5%), where 3.3% was caused by over-cultivation. In addition, Oceania with the total land at 13%, was not influenced by over-cultivation(0%). In contrast, over grazing made up 11.3% of Oceania’s total.
