The three pie charts illustrate the average proportions of three types of nutrients – sodium, saturated fat, and added sugar – in different types of meals, all of which can be harmful when consumed in excessive amounts.
Overall, sodium and saturated fat account for their largest proportions at dinner, whereas added sugar has its greatest share in snacks. By contrast, breakfast contains the lowest proportions of all three nutrients.
In terms of sodium, dinner accounts for the largest proportion, at 43%, followed by lunch at 29%. Breakfast and snacks represent the smallest shares, at 14% each. A similar pattern can be seen for saturated fat, with dinner again accounting for the largest proportion, at 37%. Lunch and snacks represent 26% and 21%, respectively, while breakfast has the lowest proportion, at 16%.
By contrast, added sugar accounts for the largest proportion in snacks, at 42%. Dinner has a smaller share, at 23%, compared with the other two meals. Lunch makes up 19%, while breakfast represents the smallest share, at 16%.
