The given chart illustrates changes in the average amount of time that people spent getting to their jobs in four Australian cities from 2002 to 2010.
Overall, there was a noticeable increase in commuting times for workers in Sydney, whereas the opposite was seen in the citizens of Adelaide. Moreover, it can be seen that average amount of time people spent travelling to work in Perth remained unchanged during six years.
Looking at the graph, in Sydney and Brisbane commuters spent more time getting to work during the given period. While Sydney residents commuted to job in 35 minutes in 2002, Brisbane citizens spent just over 25 minutes, which was significantly less than Sydney. By 2008, commuting time in both cities had increased slightly, at around 39 and just over 35 respectively. In the last year, commuting time in Sydney witnessed a slow decline, from 39 to 37 minutes. In that year, commuting time in Brisbane also dropped, at around 34 minutes.
Among all cities, only Perth and Adelaide saw small changes. In Perth, commuting time was remained stable, at around 26 minutes between 2002 and 2008, whereas Adelaide witnessed a fluctuation over the same period. In 2010, Perth saw a noticeable rise, amounting 34 from 26 minutes in 2008, while Adelaide showed the same result as at the beginning of the period, at around 24.
