The bar chart compares four different types of social media platforms in terms of the average time people spent on them between 2016 and 2020. Overall, time spent on three of the platforms increased, albeit to varying degrees, whereas Facebook recorded a noticeable downward trend. Notably, although Facebook had the highest figures in the first year, it was overtaken by the others in the following years.
Facebook topped the list in 2016, with usage at roughly 25 minutes. However, it declined substantially throughout the period, reaching approximately 3 minutes in 2020. In contrast, Twitter’s usage grew gradually from about 23 minutes in 2016 to around 44 minutes by 2020, becoming the most-used app by the final year.
As for Instagram and Snapchat, their figures stood at around 24 minutes and approximately 13 minutes in the first year, respectively. Both platforms observed positive trends in the majority of the period. Instagram’s usage fluctuated, but overall increased to around 36 minutes by 2020. However, Snapchat’s figure rose substantially, peaking at roughly 45 minutes in 2019 before falling to 15 minutes by 2020.
