The bar chart depicts the amount of time spent on social media from 2016 to 2020.
Overall, none of the platforms remained stable over the period, as they experienced fluctuations, both upward and downward changes.
In 2016, the time allocated for Facebook and Twitter was almost equal, about 24 and 23 minutes per day, respectively. However, they followed different trends. After witnessing a dramatic decline in 2017, Facebook started to decrease gradually from 10 minutes to 5 minutes by the end of the period. By contrast, Twitter rose significantly. It was only utilized 20 minutes each day in 2016, but the duration increased steadily year on year. Subsequently, it reached 45 minutes daily usage.
Both Instagram and Snapchat fluctuated from year to year. Even though Snapchat began at the lowest figure, it saw a series of rises before descending from 45 minutes to 15 minutes in 2020. In contrast, Instagram ended the period with the second highest level. Its daily duration was about 15 minutes in 2016. But it soared to 42 minutes in the next year. The last two years, it diminished its consumption length sharply.
