The chart displays the changes that took place in three different areas of crime, such as burglary,car theft and robbery in city Newport downtown between 2003 and 2012.
Overall, the figures from the chart shows that the number of burglary has significantly decreased. While the amount of car theft has fluctuated and eventually became the most common crime by the end of the period. However, robberies, in turn, were most often carried out of the three types of crime.
The burglary was the originally the most common crime at the beginning of the period, in 2003 there were about 3500 incidents. In 2004 the indicators of burglary reaches the peak to approximately 3800 occasions. However, in the following years the number of such crimes has significantly decreased by 2008, it amounted to about more than 1000 cases and remained stable by 2012.
Car theft gradually boosted after a short decline in the middle of 2000’s. In 2003, there were about 2700 of crimes, by 2012 the number reached almost 2800. Additionally, the most significant theft of the car occurred in 2004, their total was approximately 2900. On the other hand, the robbery remained relatively stable throughout the period. In 2003, there were about 700 crimes, in 2005 – about 800. Then the numbers slight decreased, and by 2012 the total was the same as in 2003.
