The line chart illustrates the number of criminal cases, namely burglary, car theft, and robbery that occurred in New Port city center between 2003 and 2012.
Overall, the number of incidents of three types of crime saw fluctuations throughout, with the figure for burglary experiencing a downward trend over the period. In addition, while burglary was a criminal activity in New Port city center initially, car theft remained as the most dominant problem toward the end, as opposed to robbery, whose figure remained the lowest over the time frame.
With regard to burglary, and car theft, there were roughly 3400 cases where people’s houses were illegally entered in 2003, whereas approximately 2750 cars were stolen in the same year. Over the following year, while cases involving burglary witnessed a gradual growth to reach a peak of a striking 3700 incidents, the data for stealing cars remained unchanged. It is noticeable that the number of houses broken into by burglars saw a drastic decrease to a low of 1200 incidents in 2008, before rising slowly to 1490 incidents in 2009, where it remained stable until the end. Similarly, the figure for vehicle theft also underwent a downward trend until the year 2006, falling to 2000 incidents. However, it then fluctuated mildly and surpassed the burglary’s rate, recovering to its initial level toward the end of the time frame.
Moving on to robbery, in 2003, it was reported that approximately 550 people were robbed, after which this figure climbed to a peak of 950 in 2005, before fluctuating and ending the period at 750 in 2012. It is noticeable that the gap between the figures for burglary and robbery had narrowed considerably.
