The bar chart compares the gender distribution across five distinct levels of post-school qualifications in Australia in 1999.
Overall, it is evident that men held the majority in three out of the five categories, whereas women outnumbered men in Undergraduate Diplomas and Bachelor’s Degrees. The most significant gender disparity was observed in Skilled Vocational Diplomas, which were overwhelmingly male-dominated.
Regarding the qualifications dominated by males, the Skilled Vocational Diploma displayed the widest gap; men accounted for 90% of the total, which is nine times the proportion of women (10%). A similar trend was visible in Postgraduate Diplomas, where males comprised 70% of holders – more than double the figure for females. Men also represented the majority in Master’s Degrees, holding 60% compared to 40% for women.
Conversely, women were the primary holders of Undergraduate Diplomas, constituting roughly 70% of the group, while men made up slightly less than 40%. The distribution for Bachelor’s Degrees was the most balanced; women held a marginal lead at roughly 55%, compared to 45% for their male counterparts.
