Overall, it is evident that Australia was consistently the most popular destination for UK residents in all three years. In contrast, Canada experienced the least emigrants most of the years, except in 2000, when Spain reported the minimum number of emigrants.
In 2000, the number of emigrants who went to Australia was approximately 42 thousand, followed by Spain just over 12 thousand and Canada 30 thousand. In 2005, Australia accounted for 70 thousand number of British emigrants, making it the most popular destination, before declining to 60 thousand in 2010.
Conversely, in the same period, the number of emigrants increased in Spain, reaching 50 thousand, whereas Canada faced a slight decline at around 20 thousand. In 2010, there was a fall in the number of British citizens in Spain, back to 20 thousand, close to 15 thousand level. Similarly, Canada exhibited a further decline to 10 thousand, making it the least popular destination that year.
