The number of private cars used started at 19M in 1996, by far the leading mode of transportation as compared to other vehicles. After a decade, it rose significantly 26,32% to 24M change between the given time. Similar changes, but to a lesser extent, can be seen in the figure for all other transports, which increased slightly from 1,2M to 1,8M over the 10-year period and it was reported to account for a growth to 58,33%.
Exactly 1M motorcycles were registered in European use, with a rough decline to 0,6M at the end of this period. Thus, motorbikes comprised the -40% change in their number. The figure for lorries also decreased by 0,1M, which experienced a -20% drop to 0,4 in 2006. Additionally, the number of buses, coaches, and taxis remained unchanged throughout the timeline, constituting 0,1M.
