Overall, motorcycles and lorries experienced a downward trend, whereas the opposite was true for that of private cars and other vehicles. Meanwhile, public transport remained unchanged throughout the period. In addition, more people had private cars registered than other kinds of vehicles, whereas it was contrast for buses, coaches, and taxis.
In 1996, there were 19 million private cars registered, which exceeded that of other vehicles (1,5 millions). At the same time, motorcycles ranked third with 1 million registered, followed by lorries and public transportation with 0,5 million and 0,1 million vehicles registered in 1996, respectively.
In 2006, private cars reached 24 million registered, with the changing percentage was 26,32%. Following that were other types of vehicles and motorcycles with 2 millions and 0,6 million, respectively, changing by 58,33% and approximately 40%, correspondingly. Ranking fourth was lorries, decreased by roughly 20%, with 0,4 million registered vehicles, which was slightly higher than that of buses, coaches, and taxis (0,1 miilion), which represented no changes.
