The bar chart illustrates how many vehicles of various types were used in Europe over a decade starting from 1996.
Overall, while the number of private cars and all other vehicles in use experienced upward trends, that of motorcycles and lorries decreased. It is also noticeable that most Europeans used private cars throughout the given period.
At 19 million in 1996, the figure for private cars registered in European use claimed the top position, more than 10 times greater than that for other recorded vehicles. 10 years later, this number still led the way after an increase of 26,32% to 24 million. By comparison, although the data for the all others group saw the most significant rise of 58,33%, it failed to reach the 5 million mark in both years.
At the beginning of the time frame, 1 million motorcycles and 0.5 million lorries were in use. After a decade, the numbers declined to 0,6 million and 0.4 million respectively, with motorcycles’ statistics falling at the highest rate: 40%. The number of buses, coaches and taxis used in Europe stayed unchanged over the ten-year period, at 0.1 million.
