At the first glance, it can be seen that the number of applicants from China was the highest except in 2007 and 2008, USA was the highest. Additionally, the proportion of Russian applicants was the lowest.
Going to speculation details, it is obvious that in 2004, China led with around 27000 applicants while USA had second highest applicants with roughly 15000 and followed by Japan with about 5500. Similarly, china decreased significantly just over 20000 and declined to 15000 in 2008. Meanwhile, USA increased considerably around 22000 in 2007 before rising to almost 27000 in 2008.
On the contrary, Japan had almost the same just below 10000 between 2005 and 2007 and a small rise to 10000 in 2008. Additionally, the number of Russian students who applied was the least at around 2500 in 2004, then fell to about 1000 and remained stable in 2005 and 2006 before climbing gradually to roughly 2500 in 2007.
