The given bar chart provides information about the quantity of international students in Australia commencing different types of programs between 2017 and 2020.
On the whole, it is clear that Higher Education and VET accounted for by far te largest numbers od international student commencements throughout the period, whereas Shools and Non-award programs were at least popular sectors.
Regarding to the largest sectors, the number of international students commencing Higher Education increased from approximatelly 150 thousand in 2017 to 175 thoand in 2019, before falling sharply to around 140 thousand in 2020. By contrast, VET experienced a steady upward trend throughout the period, by rising from about 135 thousand in 2017 to nearly 170 thousand in 2020. As a consequence, VET became the most popular sector in the final year.
Turning to remaining sectors, the quantity of students commencing ELICOS programs remained stable at around 120 thousand between 2017 and 2019, before dropping significantly to approximatelly 70 thousand in 2020. Meanwhile, the figure for schools was much lower, staying at about 15 thousand from 2017 to 2019, and then declining sligthky to nearly 5 thousand in the final year. Likewise, Non-award programs accounted for roughly 40 thousand between 2017 and 2019, after which the number fell considerably to about 25 thousand in 2020.
