The bar chart compares five types of work in terms of the number of employees in a certain Australian region in the years 2001 and 2008. In general, the number of people employed in sales, computing and nursing increased between 2001 and 2008, while the trend was reversed for accounting and farming. In terms of individual categories, sales had the highest number of employees in both years, with the opposite scenario seen for farming.
With regard to employment sectors that employed more people in 2008 than in 2001, sales emerged as the biggest employer in both years, employing around 155,000 in 2001 and approximately 165,000 in 2008. Meanwhile, the numbers of workers in computing and nursing stood at roughly 57,000 each in 2001, figures which had increased at varying degrees, reaching about 80,000 and 60,000 respectively by 2008.
As for the others, accounting had more than twice as many workers as farming in both years shown. Commencing at about 64,000 initially, the number of workers in the former declined to around 60,000 in 2008. Likewise, there was also a downward trend in the figure for farming where approximately 30,000 people had worked in 2001 before their number shrank to slightly less than 20,000 in 2008, making it the smallest category throughout the period given.
