The bar chart illustrates the five selected comparable types of work in Australia across 2001 and 2008.
Overall, it is apparent that sales consistently remained the most popular profession by a wide margin throughout the period. Additionally, while the number of people working in computing, nursing, and sales experienced an upward trajectory, employment in accounting and farming declined.
In 2001, sales employed the highest number of individuals at approximately 156,000, and this figure grew further to about 163,000 in 2008. Computing experienced the most significant growth, with the workforce rising from roughly 58,000 to 81,000 over the seven-year period. Meanwhile, the number of nurses remained relatively stable, showing only a slight increase from 58,000 to just over 60,000.
Conversely, employment in the other two sectors dropped. Accounting started at around 66,000 workers in 2001 but decreased to nearly 58,000 by 2008. Farming was the least popular job sector in both years.
