The chart illustrates the proportion of Australians born in different countries around the world.
Overall, it is evident that a majority of Australian people were born overseas over the period of 35 years. Additionally, while the proportion of Australians born in Asia was highest, the reverse was true for the UK by 2011.
Specifically, 15% of Australians were born in the UK in 1976, making it the highest number at that time, while only around 3% of Australian arrivals were in Asia. Interestingly, this trend had reversed after 35 years, with only 5% and 15% of Australian population born in the respective nations.
However, a fluctuation of Australians born in other countries had been recorded, with nearly 12% in 1976. This figure experienced a dip at roughly 8% after 10 years before reaching its zenith at nearly 15% in 2006. By 2011, the proportion of Australian people were born overseas saw a slight decrease, at around 13%. The total trend was similar to the other nation’s one, starting with 30% of Australians born in 1976, then seeing a drop at around 23% in 1991, and rising again to approximately 33% by 2011.
