The bar chart illustrates the proportion of recycling waste materials, namely plastic, cans, paper, and glass in the three different years 1992, 1997, and 2002 in one area. Overall, all of the materials experienced different upward trends, except for cans, which witnessed a downward trend before growing in 2002. Meanwhile, recycling reached its highest level in 2002.
In 1997, only 10% of plastic was recycled, then it increased to 12% in 1997 and remained at the same percentage in 2002. While, recycling of cans ranked first compared to other materials, at about 20% in 1997, before dropping to around 13% in 1997. Then, it reached its highest recycling rate of approximately 25% in 2002.
Glass and paper experienced nearly similar upward trends. They both started at about 14% in 1992, after which the recycling rates for glass and paper rose significantly to around 28% and 30%, respectively, in 1997.
