The rate of households in owned and rented accommodation in England and Wales from 1918 to 2011 is illustrated in the chart below.
Overall, Initially the ratio of households in rented dwellings was highest, but the percentage in owned accommodation was lowest. A certain time both percentages of households were the same. At last, there was a gradual decrease in the number of households opting for rented accommodation, also the ratio of households in owned accommodation significantly increased .
In 1918, the owned housing rate of households was approximately 25%, and the households rate of owned accommodation was nearly 77%. The next year owned households’ accommodation percentage growth significantly, which was about 33%. Although the rented Families rate dropped, around 78% of households. In 1953 was the same percentage of the previous year for both families.
Over the period in 1971 , both of the accommodations were equal,so the percentage of households was half. In 1981 , the households in owned accommodation dramatically reached, which rate was 60%. On the other hand rented accommodation households rate experienced a decrease, which was 40%. Between 1991 to 2001 the households rate in rented accommodation was equally same that was approximately 32%, but the owned accommodation of household percentage to sharply increased at around 69% . On the last year, the household in owned accommodation was slightly dropped at about 65% , but households rate for owned accommodation was significantly increased around 35% .
