The bar chart compares the participation levels for different free-time activities by gender in England. Overall, the majority of activities such as watching TV and spending time with family are equally common across both genders, while activities like shopping and using the internet indicate a greater gender disparity. Playing computer games was the only activity that was least favoured by both men and women.
Looking at the more gender-neutral activities, we can see that participation rates for both genders are equally high. About three-quarters of men and women are reported to engage in watching TV, spending time with family, doing sports or exercise and reading. In contrast, playing computer games is the least favorite pastime for both men and women, accounting for approximately 12% and 15%, respectively.
Moving on to more gender-specific activities, we can see that nearly 75% of women do shopping in their free-time, as opposed to just above 25% of men. In contrast, more men than women prefer to use the internet, with figures hovering around 75% for the former and just over 35% for the latter.
