Overall, it is evident that the overall population has been increased over the period and is expected to rise throughout the years for all categories except for Oceania, which showed similar trend in all three years.
In detail, North America and Latin America showed the largest proportion of growth in urban areas. In 1975, North America accounted for around 75%, reaching approximately 82% in 2020 and is expected to rise up to 90% by 2050. Similarly, Latin America witnessed around 60% of total population, which significantly rose up to 80% in 2020, and is forecast to rise almost of 90% by 2050. Europe, which had around 67% of population, steadily rose to roughly 77% in 2020, and is expected to surged up to 83% by 2050.
Moreover, Asia, Africa and Worldwide population showed a similar growth. Africa and Asia had the least population of almost 22% each in 1975, which increased to 42% in Africa and 50% in Asia by 2020. Asia’s population rose almost 70% and Africa’s roughly up to 60% by the end of 2050. Globally, it accounted for 38% in 1975, almost around 58% in 2020 and is expected to rise up to 70% by 2050.
On the other hand, Oceania had just over 50% in 1975, just less than 50% in 2020, and is projected to rise just above 50%, slightly higher than compared to 1975. It’s population revolved around 50% in all years.
