The diagram gives information on the percentage of total population of elder people from the age of 65 to 85 and over in the USA during the period from 1900 to 2000.
Overall, as can be seen from the chart 65-74 years age was dominant among others during 100 years, while the 75-84 years old people share was growing marginally till it has become more prevalent beginning from 1950.The least group age, as can be noticed was 85+ , it has not almost changed during the period, except the slight increase from 1960 to 2000.
First of all, the chart shows that among three age groups such as 65- 74, 75- 84, 85+ the most widespread was and remained the first one.Starting from 1900 to 1930 the percentage had been going up little by little, when its number became 4.8% in 1940.That shows the significant difference in 1%.Subsequently, from this year it had increased only at 0.8% and became steady during 1960 to 1970 at 6.1%.Till 2000 year it has experienced some type of fluctuations with the highest peak at 7.3 in 1990 and the moderate decline to 6.5 at the end. Meanwhile, the second age fraction of 75-84 was showing the gradual rise every decade , when it had showed marked alterations in 1940 accounting 1.7%. Since then, this share was rising steadily in 0.4% every 10 years, til it peaked at 4.4% in 2000.The third age group must be mentioned as well, even though it has shown the least percentage of tendency among three others. It appears from the diagram that, 85 years and elder people have not accounted even the 1% percent at the beginning, however, the percentage has increased considerably to 1.5 in 2000.Initially,the age group was not showing any growth till 1930, then it has become 0.3% which was larger in 0.1% compared to the primer number.Therefore, it had not been altering during 3 decades, however the growth can be seen in 1960.From that time, it was rising step by step to become in the result 1.5%.
