The depicted chart illustrates the percentage of five businesses opting for e-commerce buying by industry in Canada from 2015 and 2019.
Overall, the figure for information and communications accounted for the most in all years despite the fluctuation. Interestingly, the proportions of all industries making e-commerce purchases have increased by the final year.
Turning to the details, we can see that the figures for construction and wholesale experienced the same pattern over the 4-year period, increasing just above 20% to nearly 55% and 40% to just above 60%, respectively. In contrast, the rate for manufacturing started at roughly 32% in 2015, and afterwards, it rose significantly to almost 50%, before dropping to approximately 45%. But, it ended up at just under 60% in 2019, which was its peak.
The proportion for retail soared from nearly 32% to 56% over the given period, with a drop by roughly 2% between 2018 and 2019. It is interesting to that the starting level (61%) of information and communications surpassed the peaks of other industries, except wholesale. Moreover, it reached its maximum in 2018 at approximately 73%, before dropping slightly to just under 70% by the final year.
