The bar chart compares how gender distribution of students at a UK university varied among six art-related programs in 2011.
Overall, female students outnumbered males in most subjects, except for Art and Design. Additionally, the highest percentage of female students enrolled in Communication and Media while that of males was interested in English Language and Literature.
The top three classes saw a quite similar patterns. Communication and Media Study attracted the most females, at about 270 students, compared to 210 male students. Similarly, the figure in English language and Literature had around 230 male students, exceeded by females (at 250). In terms of Linguistics, a shy of 200 males and under 250 females pursued this program.
Regarding the three least popular subjects, the gap between males and females in Philosophy was the largest while the opposite was true for the gap in Art and Design. About 170 males studied the latter, in comparison with 160 females enrolled. History and Archeology attracted about 90 males and 120 females. In the last place, the lowest number of males pursued Philosophy, at exactly 50, and 150 female students were interested in this program.
