The bar chart illustrates four different states of dissertations done by students in a particular UK university in 1990, 2000, and 2010.
Overall, all the submissions saw a growth in their number of projects for most of the timeframe, except for a decline in the failed projects. Notably, the on-time submission was the dominant state over the given period.
In terms of completed projects, the on-time dissertations and late dissertations experienced consistent increases over time. Initially, the former maintained its top with an impressive completion of 150 students, then this number rose to approximately 350 students in 2010, outperforming those of the other three states. On the other hand, the number of late projects also went up gradually. Despite the modest start with roughly 20 students in 1990, its number grew more than double in the next two years, rising to the second place at 50 students by the end of the period.
Turning to the failed and rewritten dissertations, a substantial decline was evident in failed projects. Starting at around 50 students in 1990, the number of students gradually descended to the lowest rank two years later, ending the period at around 5 students. In contrast, rewritten projects observed a more erratic trajectory. Its students were hardly any project in 1990 and significantly increased to around 50 by 2000. However, it then took a slight drop to above 25 students till the last year recorded.
