The line chart presents information about three different crimes and the number of cases committed from 1970 to 2005 in England and Wales.
Overall, the numbers of car theft, house burgling, and street robbery all increased during the 35-year period, while the rate of increase differed significantly. Notably, the figure for car theft was often the highest, except for the year 1980, whereas that for street robbery was the lowest despite its slight growth.
It is clear that there was a continuous upward trend in the figure for car theft from 0.4 million in 1970 to 1.6 million in 1995, and then there was a downward trend in the next decade. The number of housing burgling fluctuated between 0.2 million and roughly 0.9 million throughout the period, reaching the peak of 0.9 million in 1980, ending at 0.5 million in 2005.
By contrast, the figure for street robbery had a slight growth over the first 3 decades, while it increased more rapidly in the last five years, from about 0.25 million to 0.4 million.
