The line chart demonstrates the portion of female representatives across five European states from 2000 to 2012. Overall, Germany initially had the highest portion of female representatives in its government among the five countries, whereas UK had the lowest one. However, over the past 12 years, Italy had become the European country with the highest female parliament members in 2012, while both UK and Belgium had the least.
In 2000, both Germany and Italy sat in the first and second rank, with Germany had around 33% and Italy had 26% of its legislative members being a woman. However, in the next twelve years, these numbers would change, resulting in Italy having 39% and Germany having 36% of its legislative body represented by female members. Therefore, despite both countries’ figures had rosen up, Italy had became a European state with most female representatives in 2012 instead of Germany. On the other hand, France government had 25% female legislators on 2000 and 32% female legislators on 2012, making it consistently stay in the third place.
For other countries such as UK and Belgium, both of them had the lowest proportion of female members in their parliament, covering only 4% and 17% respectively. However, UK had managed to boost its female representation in its government to the point of becoming similar in terms of woman representation with Belgium on 2012, which both countries had 23% of the representatives being a woman.
