The given chart illustrates the difference and change in the percentage of female parliamentarians in 5 specific European countries, such as Germany, Italy, France, the UK, and Belgium, from the year 2000 to 2012. Overall, a few main trends can be observed: In the beginning of data collection, it seems that 4 countries from the list in 2000 had meaningful differences in numbers compared to the United Kingdom.
Analysing the chart, in the year 2000, Germany held the leading role in numbers with nearly 35 percent, which decently, but pretty slowly, increased throughout the given years, peaking in 2012. Similar features are demonstrated by data from Italy and France, with significant and constant growth of females from Italy, with a surge from the year 2008 to 2012, peaking at approximately 40 percent, while France is at over 30.
On the other side, Belgium demonstrated a sharp jump from the year 2000 to 2004, following a slow increase and decreasing by the end of 2012 to over 20 percent. The most deceiving trend out of these 5 is the UK, performing a sudden jump similar to Belgium, but repeating it again from the year 2004 to 2008 and then ending up with the same number as Belgium in 2012. The information depicts that even though some of the countries tend to develop as a society where women have enough rights and courage to demonstrate their power and participate in their country’s political course, there is still an inequality compared to men.
