The bar chart compares four means of transportation – air, coach, car, and ferry – in terms of their usage by international visitors in New Zealand in 2004.
Overall, while the higher number of tourists from Britain, Germany, and Australia preferred travelling by coach, air and car travel were the most popular options among Japanese and Korean visitors. Notably, the ferry was the least used mode of transport among all nationalities.
In detail, traveling by coach ranged from 50 to 58 among British, German, and Australian tourists, whereas this was less popular among Japanese and Korean tourists at 48 and 35. By contrast, the figure for air travel was the highest among Japanese and Koreans, at 52 and 42, respectively. Meanwhile, almost the same number of German and British visitors used air travel, at around 43 and 42, compared with Australians, who lagged slightly at 25.
Turning to the remaining categories, the car was less favored than air and coach travel, except for Korean visitors, for whom it stood at 47. Around 28 British visitors and 35 German visitors used automobiles to travel, and there was only a 2-point difference between the Japanese and Australians at 22 and 20.
Regarding the ferry, this was the least used type of transport among all nationalities. While the British and German visitors shared the same standings at 20, the figures ranged from about 5 to 12.
