The bar graphs compares the proportion of people’s interest across six different sports, in the UK, from 1995 to 2005.
Overall, while the percentage of individuals who enjoyed football, swimming, and rugby showed an upswing, those for snooker, tennis, and golf experienced a reverse trend. Additionally, despite different trends between categories, football was still the most favorite sports throughout.
To start with, football, swimming, and rugby illustrated the increase of the level of interest across people. Beginning at over 40%, the share of people that liked football increased gradually over a decade before ending at a peak of around 45% by 2005. At a lower rate, in 1995, the figure for swimming was approximately 22%. Then, it rose moderately by a roughly 10% by 2000 before dropping steadily to around 25%. In addition, the rate of people enjoy rugby was the lowest in 2000 although starting at approximately 25%. However, it grew modestly by over 6%, surpassing the figure for swimming.
In contrast, the remaining sports illustrated downward trends, with around 30% of people who liked playing snooker, and tennis in 1995. However, they both fell down by a roughly a tenth, and stopped at around 21% in 2005. Lastly, although having 25% of players in 1995, the figure for golf declined slightly to around 24%, but still higher than those of snooker, and tennis.
