The graph compares statistics about how much time teachers spent teaching and standard time inhours in three different types of schools in Japan, Spain, Iceland, and the USA in 2001.
In general, it can be clearly seen that USA schools led in teaching time while the figure for Iceland schools relatively lower. Interestingly, the teaching time of upper secondary schools higher than that of others in all the countries, with Japan showing that all categories of school in teaching time had no big difference.
Looking at average time spent in primary levels, American teachers spent more time teaching, at 1190. Spain and Iceland were almost the same, with 900 and 910hours. Japanese teachers spent 700 hours per year. A similar pattern can be seen in lower secondary, the lowest number of hours noted in Iceland at 750. The USA was at the top with 1000 hours. Spain and Japan were middle with 750 and 650 hours respectively.
In contrast, upper secondary school teachers spent the most time teaching among all 4 countries. The highest number was in USA, approximately 1200. It was followed by Iceland and Spain with around 900 hours. Japan had the lowest teaching hours at 700
