Bar Chart Essay Task 1
The bar chart demonstrates how much people in France and the United Kingdom spent on five consumer goods – cars, computers, books, perfume, and cameras – in 2010. The amounts are shown in pounds sterling.
Overall, both countries spent the most money on cars and the least on perfume. In general, the UK had higher spending on most products than France, except for computers.
Cars took the largest share of total spending in both countries. In the UK, the amount reached about £450,000, while in France it was slightly lower, at around £400,000. Spending on books showed a similar pattern, with British people spending roughly £400,000 compared to about £300,000 in France.
The biggest gap was seen in spending on cameras and perfume. The UK spent more than twice as much on cameras as France – approximately £350,000 compared to £150,000. In contrast, perfume had the smallest figures in both nations, standing at about £200,000 in France and around £150,000 in the UK.
